Connecting communities

This year we are expanding the job training we offer by increasing our presence at local farmers’ markets. Learning to run a booth at a farmers’ market provides highly competent refugees with a practical set of confidence-building skills that can lead to better jobs. Markets also give our community a way to meet refugees face-to-face while we support our mission through sales.

Program Details

Our 10 week market training blends a 2-hour/week class on marketing, sales, customer service and point of sale technology with 8 hours/week hands-on components where participants work with our market managers and vendors to demo at stores and sell at one of seven farmers’ markets. This is a great opportunity for the community to learn about our product and mission and for our participants to interact and connect with the community and to gain valuable job experience.

Throughout the program we utilize volunteers and field trips to give trainees new perspectives on the job market in Rhode Island, and also life in general. Each week trainees get paid for hours worked at farmers markets, demonstrations they perform at local grocery stores and events, and for attending our workshops. At the end of the program, we graduate each participant with a signed certificate recognizing their accomplishments and continue to assist them until they have found a job.
