Born in Homs, Syria, Wfaa moved to Jordan with her family as refugees when she was 7 years old. Her father was a realtor and her mother stayed at home, raising 6 children. Wfaa spent 11 years in Jordan, where she completed high school with a love of reading and learning.
In early 2016, Wfaa’s family was told they would be resettled to the US. They finally arrived in Providence, RI in June of 2024 - after an 8 years long wait! A family friend sponsored them and the Diocese of Providence introduced Wfaa to Beautiful Day’s job training program.
Working at Beautiful Day is Wfaa’s first job experience. She is practicing English and acquiring the skills needed to work both in a culinary setting and an American workplace. In Wfaa’s own words, “The atmosphere is comfortable here at Beautiful Day, even though everyone has a different background and language. I am feeling the responsibility of making money for the first time.”
Wfaa has started to make new friends and wants to go back to school and pursue a career in medicine. She loves to learn and study, and is thinking of becoming an anesthesiologist. Wfaa knows that things do not come easily and is working hard to become independent and achieve her dream career.
