Meet Simon

Meet Simon

Simon was born in South Sudan and moved to Uganda at the age of 12. He lived with his brother, two sisters, and mother in the Imvepi Refugee Camp for seven years. While in Uganda, Simon attended primary school for four years, drove a motorcycle taxi, and sold fruit to support his family. In his free time, Simon enjoyed playing soccer with his friends and experimented with various positions on the field.

Simon and his family arrived in the United States and resettled in Providence in November 2024. Simon speaks Kakwa, a language found in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan. In February of this year, he started studying English at Dorcas International and is committed to improving his language skills, particularly in reading.

Simon has been with Beautiful Day since January 2025, in the adult kitchen trainee program. He enjoys making and packaging the granola, granola bars, and hummus. He also enjoys working with the team and says everyone at Beautiful Day is very kind.

Simon's dream is to keep learning English and to go back to school to study to be a mechanical engineer.
