Meet Seyna

Seyna was born in Touba, a city in central Senegal, which is home to the Grand Magal Mosque, a place she remembers fondly.

Growing up without parents, Seyna raised her two brothers and two sisters while attending school. She enjoyed language classes and focused on Wolof and French. After completing her primary education, Seyna held various jobs, working as a cleaner and running a small business selling imported clothing and jewelry from Mauritania.

Before she arrived in the U.S. in 2023, she imagined it was “very, very big,” she said, while stretching her arms wide. After resettling, she worked as a nanny for a friend from The Gambia, and stocked shelves at Walmart. Now that she’s looking for full-time work, Seyna hopes to find a job cleaning, cooking, or crocheting and sewing. 

Seyna joined our granola production training program at the beginning of this year and brought joy and enthusiasm to the program. She is taking English classes at the Refugee Dream Center in Providence and was excited to practice while working at Beautiful Day. At her graduation ceremony, Seyna stood up to thank the staff and other trainees, showing how much she had grown in confidence.
