Meet Riziki
Riziki, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, had to flee to the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp in Tanzania along with her brother when she was six years old. Despite the hardships, she found joy there—playing defense on the soccer field with friends and discovering her love for agriculture at the Institut de l'Amitié. For seven years, she learned to grow spinach, onions, cabbage, tomatoes, and cassava in the school garden. She enjoyed “every part of the work,” from planting seeds to sharing wonderful meals from the harvest.
Soon after she graduated from high school, Riziki got married. They were together for four years until her husband was resettled in Rhode Island in 2019. The separation was difficult, but in 2023, Riziki was finally approved to join him. “I was very excited,” she says. She first arrived in Texas and worked in quality control at AbiMar Foods before moving to Rhode Island six months later to start a new chapter and begin their family together.
Riziki graduated from Beautiful Day’s Kitchen Program in August and was offered a full-time position at Edesia Nutrition, a local company that produces life-saving supplements to treat and prevent global malnutrition. She’s very happy to be part of a team and to be able to support her husband and their two young children.
