Meet Fayza

Meet Fayza

Born in Syria's capital city, Damascus, Fayza arrived in
Rhode Island with her husband and four daughters in
July 2024. She comes from a large family, with eight
sisters and two brothers, who are still living in Syria.

While living in Damascus, Fayza was a homemaker and
studied cosmetology, including cutting, coloring, and
styling hair, shaping eyebrows, and doing makeup and
nails. She enjoys giving beauty treatments to friends and
family. Before arriving in the United States, Fayza and her
family lived in Egypt, where she worked as a hairstylist.

Though she naturally misses her home, Fayza is happy to
be in Rhode Island and appreciates the friendliness of
the people. A native Arabic speaker, she began studying
English in December 2024 at the Dorcas International
Institute and has made significant progress.

This year, Fayza graduated from the Granola Production
Training Program, where she was an enthusiastic team
member. She enjoyed making granola and hummus as well
as packaging them. Starting this spring, she has been hired
full-time to work in a packaging facility. Additionally, she
plans to pursue further education, including CNA training,
with the goal of becoming a nurse.
